MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Money can't bring him back, but friends and family of a murdered Madison County man are hoping it can bring justice.

They've pitched in $6,000 in reward money so far for their friend, Alonzo McGhee.

"Alonzo was an athletic, fun loving kind of guy. Very giving, giving to the kids," said Greg Parker, a friend of McGhee's.

Parker said he knew McGhee for 10 years. He coached rec league football and baseball teams with him.

Parker calls McGhee a big guy with a big smile.

"He wanted to work with the kids," he said.

McGhee was a standout football player at Georgia Southern before becoming a Lt. Colonel in the Army.

He had been going through a divorce, and Parker saw the strain on his friend.

"And that's always tough when a family's breaking apart," he said.

A judge had granted Alonzo the family home and custody of the couple's three children, but on January 4th, everything turned upside down when McGhee was shot and killed in his driveway in Owens Cross Roads.

Parker found out a few hours later.

"The first thing I did was pick up the cell phone and I got the voicemail. I left a message and said, 'Call me,'" he said.

But the call never came.

Four months later, Parker and McGhee's legion of friends are begging for a different sort of call.

They've come up with $6,000 in reward money, knowing full well that somebody knows something.

"Obviously, one person's done the wrong thing. Hopefully, the people who know won't be a party to that and somebody will come through to clear their consciences," said Parker.

Whether it's your conscience or the cash - or both - please, make the anonymous call to 256-53-CRIME or send an anonymous text or e-mail by clicking on the Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers link.

There's up to a thousand dollars more in reward money being offered there.
