LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

School leaders in Limestone County are promising a smooth or smoother transition into the computerized learning.

The county is the latest to hand out laptops and iPads to students, but the superintendent said he doesn't think there will be the kind of rough spots Huntsville has experienced going digital.

All of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be the first students in Limestone County Schools to receive either an iPad or a laptop.

Limestone County Schools Superintendent Tom Sisk said they've learned from other districts' mistakes on how to make this digital switch efficiently and with very little issues.

He said they have already identified a problem with their bandwidth. It's a problem that plagued Huntsville City Schools when they made the switch and Limestone County will not have that same issue.

Sisk said a lot of time an effort has gone into this to make sure they do it right.

"We want to take the practices that we develop at Blue Spring and implement that in each of our other eight elementary schools. We plan to begin with grades three, four, and five and ultimately we envision going all the way to 12th grade," Sisk said.

There are also major financial burdens districts take on when they make a digital switch like this.

Sisk said it will cost $2-million a year to have all of their students enrolled in this program.

They in the process of identifying where those funds will come from, but they believe this is the future of education and that's why they're making the switch now.
