ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Athens Police say a man falsely reported a robbery.

Investigators say Randy Nesmith told officers he withdrew $10,000 from a bank before driving to a gas station on Interstate 65. Police say Nesmith reported he was robbed by three armed men at that gas station.

Investigators say the money was never withdrawn from the bank.

According to police, Nesmith changed his story when confronted with that information. Police say he claimed the money was a gift from his girlfriend's grandmother and that he lost the money.

Police say they found a small bag of marijuana and a glass pipe in Nesmith's car.

Nesmith is charged with filing a false report, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
