FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Because of the news out of Ohio of the teens rescued after 10 years missing, the Franklin County Sheriff's Department is dusting off one of their oldest cold cases.

Nobody has heard from Andrea Gonzalez in nearly 20 years. She vanished outside of Russellville in November of 1993 when she was 5 years old.

Twenty years is a long time, but they also said that all it takes is one tip, and that could be the break they need to solve this mystery.

Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver pulled the 20 year old file on Tuesday.

He said they haven't received a tip in years, but that doesn't mean there's not someone out there that might have information that could break this case.

He said they will investigate anything that comes in.

Andrea's father reported her missing in 1993.

Her stepmother later admitted to accidentally killing her, and her father claims he disposed of the body, but Andrea's body was never found where they claimed they put it.

Both served prison time.

Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett was an investigator with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department when this missing person's case unfolded.

He said he spent days and weeks going over the evidence and trying to connect all the dots. Twenty years later and he still doesn't have all the answers.

Hargett said they have had all kinds of tips come in over the years, and some still claim they believe Gonzalez is still alive.

"There's always endless possibilities, but based on the information that we had and the investigation that we had, it just seems bleak that she's alive," said Hargett.

But he was also quick to point out that is what some thought up in Ohio and that clearly was not the case.

He said he wants nothing more than for Andrea Gonzalez to turn up alive and to find out what actually happened in November of 1993.
