Jailer faces drug charge after sting operation

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - A former Decatur City Jail corrections officer is facing a possession of a controlled substance charge following a sting operation by investigators.

Decatur police say Justin Fortenberry is accused of allowing an inmate to have access to tobacco - which is prohibited inside the jail. Authorities say Fortenberry requested that the inmate supply him with Lortabs, which were to be delivered by a third party.

Authorities say they set up a delivery of the drugs in a supermarket parking lot Monday while investigators conducted surveillance. Fortenberry was taken into custody at the scene of the sting operation.

Police say Forenberry resigned his position following his arrest. It wasn't known early Tuesday whether he has an attorney.
