It was supposed to be a the start of a 'new season' for the Albany Panthers (3-3) in Richmond Saturday night but it just wasn't in the cards. The Panthers lost its third straight game 51-49 against the Richmond Raiders (5-2) . Albany, which had two weeks off, was hoping to get its first win since way back on March 23rd.
The Panthers used the last few weeks to reflect and make several changes to its roster. The game looked promising early on as the Panthers opened a 22-0 lead before Richmond scored its first touchdown. Albany led 29-13 at halftime.
The game changed drastically in the 4th quarter as the Raiders forced Albany to turnover the ball before capitalizing on those mistakes. Richmond kicker T.C. Stevens kicked a field goal with 7 seconds left to give Richmond the 51-49 lead.
The Panthers had a chance to kick a 35 yard field goal for the win but head coach Lucious Davis decided to go for the long pass instead and it went incomplete. The Panthers go winless in its 3 game road trip to drop to 3-3. The team will be back at home next Saturday against Louisiana at the Civic Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
