HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Dozens of families came out Thursday night to pay tribute to their loved ones who lost their lives to violence.

The Homicide Survivors Program held it's 13th annual candlelight vigil at Big Spring Park in Huntsville.

It was a way to remember loved ones who died from some type of criminal behavior, like murder or DUI.

The keynote speaker was Leslie Freeman. Her husband, Huntsville Police Officer Eric Freeman, died in the line of duty.

Luminaries lined the walkways with the names of victims. The event also included a balloon release.
