PHIL CAMPBELL, AL (WAFF) -

It has been more than two years since the deadly 2011 tornado outbreak destroyed parts of Alabama.

Now a congregation in one of the hardest hit areas, Phil Campbell, is almost finished rebuilding their church.

Pastor Sammy Taylor, with Mountain View Baptist Church, said it has been a long journey, but he is glad to finally see an end in sight.

With the help of more than 1500 volunteers over the last nine months, the church is near completion.

Built on the same property as the old church, Taylor said this new place of worship is better than ever.

He said having faith in God has made this journey possible.

"It's just amazing to see God work, and our people are so excited. They have gone through a lot in their own personal lives and then through our faith family," Taylor said. "Some of them had homes destroyed and they worked through all that and now we're almost ready to move in and so they're excited and they realized during this process their faith has been strengthened."

Taylor said this rebuild would not have been possible without the help of a group called Builders for Christ, who helped get the construction started last summer.
