"Device" at ETX gas station was non-threatening

MARSHALL, TX (KLTV) -

Authorities have given the "all clear" after an East Texas gas station was evacuated while police investigated a "suspicious device."

The device was found at the "Pump N Pantry", which is at the intersection of Highway 43 and South Washington Avenue in Marshall. A bomb squad from Shreveport was called in to investigate.

Marshall Interim Police Chief Leland Benoit says that the call came in just before 5PM, about a device being found on the side of the building.

A 250 foot radius was evacuated around the building, but authorities determined that it was a pressure cooker filled with grease. There were no explosives inside.

"A month ago, this wouldn't have been any kind of issue," Benoit said. "But in light of the incident in Boston, we felt like we should take the proper precautions to make sure everyone was safe."
