HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A north Huntsville woman said there are snakes in a creek next to her home on Timbercrest Drive, and she said she has not received a solution from the city.

Carol Thompson said on any given morning she can go down to the creek and see more than a dozen snakes, and she believes they are water moccasins.

"The impact of them have just become devastating to me," she said.

She said she has complained about the problem for years.

"I have called the city. I have talked to several city officials," she said. "These kids running, not knowing, not looking down and step on one and become bitten. Then what?"

WAFF 48 News highlighted the issue back in 2008. Huntsville Animal Services said the two snakes we saw were just brown-banded water snakes.

Thompson said all the city has done since 2008 is build up the sides with rocks and concrete to prevent erosion, but it has only created holes for the snakes to hide in.

Thompson wants the snakes removed or the city to pave over what is there.

A crew from ATEC Pest Control showed up to put down a protective barrier for her home with environmentally friendly products.

"In nature like that, we can't control nature; but we will protect you and put a barrier up here for you," said Shawn Levie with ATEC Pest Control.

Karen Sheppard from Huntsville Animal Services also visited Thompson's home and said coming across a venomous snake in an urban environment is rare, but it can happen. She says they will assess the situation.

For now, Thompson said she will be reaching out to her city councilman, Richard Showers, to make something happen.

She is working on getting a community meeting together about the problem.
