LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

One teen is dead, and another injured after a wreck involving an 18-wheeler.

State Troopers said the vehicle driven by 17-year-old Caitlyn Martin of Russellville collided with an 18-wheeler on Highway 157 at 7:40 a.m. The wreck happened nine miles west of Moulton.

Caitlyn died of her injuries. Her sister, 14-year-old Alison Martin, was taken to Huntsville Hospital. Alison was in critical condition before she was rushed into surgery.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 48-year-old Michael Clapsadle of Virginia, was not injured.

State Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.

Both girls attended school in Hatton. Lawrence County Superintendent Heath Grimes said their school was dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Classes will resume Wednesday with counselors and clergy on hand.

Grimes said the faculty had an emotional meeting Tuesday where they were able to grieve together.

A fund has been set up at Listerhill Credit Union for the family. If you would like to contribute, you can donate to the Caitlyn Martin Memorial Fund at any Listerhill branch.
