SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

One person has died and another is in critical condition after a serious wreck in Smith County last week.

The Department of Public Safety says on Thursday, April 25, a 1995 Ford Explorer was turning left onto County Road 128 from FM 2813 when a 2009 Dodge Pickup towing a trailer hit the Explorer.

Officials at the scene originally said the Explorer was driving in the wrong lane and struck the pickup, but since revised that assessment of the crash.

Omar Saucedo, a 29-year-old male from Tyler was behind the wheel of the Ford Explorer. Saucedo died at a Tyler hospital Friday.

Scott Pope, a 42-year-old male from Hawkins was driving the Dodge Pickup. Pope is in critical condition at a Tyler hospital.

According to DPS, other passengers in the Explorer and pickup included 24-year-old Jose Saucedo who is stable at a Tyler hospital, 30-year-old Vicente Moreno who is in good condition at a Tyler hospital and 25-year-old Carlos Sanchez who is in fair condition.
