Roses planted in Birmingham in honor of Coretta Scott King

Posted: Updated:

Birmingham, AL (WBRC) - Rose bushes were planted Saturday at the feet of the Martin Luther King, Jr. statue in honor of his wife's birthday.

Dr. Sharon Bell, the wife of Birmingham Mayor William Bell, planted the roses in memory of Coretta Scott King, an Alabama native. Bell says Mrs. King's children requested the roses be planted in Kelly Ingram Park near their father's memorial.

She says the flowers represent so much about Mrs. King. Nine rose bushes in all were planted.
