BIRMINGHAM, AL (WAFF) -

One of the stories that hits close to home is that of 8-year-old Ari Hallmark of Arab who lost five of her family members in the storms, including her parents. However, she's gained a special friend.

Sports star Bo Jackson met Ari on his Bo Bikes Bama campaign last year as he raised money and awareness for tornado victims.

Ari told him about the book she wrote seeing her family enter heaven.

At an auction in Birmingham on Friday for the second annual Bo Bikes Bama, Ari presented Jackson with a copy of her book To Heaven after the Storm, and he surprised her with a custom-built bike.

Saturday, Jackson will lead a 20- and 60-mile bike ride that starts and finishes in Cordova.

This is the second year for the Bo Bikes Bama: Charity Ride.

The proceeds from the charity will benefit the Governor's Emergency Relief Fund.

The money is used to help storm survivors get back on their feet.

Last year, the event raised more than $600,000.
