MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

When the tornadoes hit two years ago, Shannon Brown sat helplessly in north Alabama as tornadoes touched down in Tuscaloosa.

His daughter, Loryn, was there, away at college.

She was killed in the storm that leveled the city.

When he found out about that tornado, he drove all night from his home in Madison through a state of debris and darkness to try to find her.

Brown's worst fears were confirmed when he arrived at her rental home. He found Loryn and her roommates all dead.

Two years later, her picture still sits on his dashboard. The hurt doesn't get easier; he just learns different ways to deal with it... But it's still raw.

"Two years ago, I was dressing for a funeral when I felt like I should have been dressing for a wedding. It's just hard to wrap around but I don't make those decisions; the Good Man upstairs makes those decisions," he said.

Loryn would be 23 today and a junior at the University of Alabama. She was studying to be a TV sportscaster.

Brown set up a scholarship in her memory at the university.

This fall, he hopes to give two scholarships to deserving students in Loryn's memory.
