TULLAHOMA, TN (WSMV) -

A young girl died this week of suicide in Coffee County, leaving a community shocked, confused and searching for answers.

The child, Tiffany Davis, was a seventh-grader at Coffee County Middle School.

As rumors abound on social media, the local sheriff's department is investigating to see if bullying may have contributed to her death.

Parents first read on websites that the child was possibly bullied and established the Facebook page Coffee County, TN Parents Against Bullying. The page received hundreds of "likes" within hours.

"No child should have to go to school and die just because they're trying to go to school. It's just not right. No parent should be afraid to send their kid to school," said parent Sherri Terrell.

The Coffee County sheriff said so far there is no evidence that Davis was bullied using social media. As of Thursday night, authorities had spoken to about a dozen students about the girl's suicide.
