Nobody injured when officer's weapon fires during arrest

Posted: Updated:

A police investigation ended with gunfire Thursday evening in north Nashville when a police officer slipped while trying to make an arrest.

Just before 6 p.m., officers were checking out a report of shots being fired near Chickasaw Avenue.

Metro police say they followed a car that was driving away from the scene when the car crashed into a ditch and the officers saw the driver toss a gun out the window.

As one of the policemen was trying to arrest that driver, he slipped in the wet grass and his own weapon somehow fired a round.

Nobody was hurt, and the names of the people involved have not been released.
