ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

A Limestone County judge delayed the trial for a former Madison Police Officer charged with 17 counts of sexual abuse.

Investigators say William Watson abused four young girls.

Following his arrest in 2012 by the Limestone County Sheriff's Office, Watson was placed on administrative leave from the Madison Police Department. Police officials say he resigned from the department in August, 2012.

Watson was scheduled to go to trial April 29. His trial has been delayed until June 24.
