AUBURN – Coach Gus Malzahn's Auburn Tigers concluded their 2013 spring drills Wednesday morning with a non-contact practice session in shorts at the Auburn Athletics Complex practice fields. The Tigers worked for an hour with the entire offensive and defensive units, then spent an hour in individual position work.
"We focused on fundamentals, techniques, all the little things," Malzahn said of today's practice. "We wanted to make sure our guys fully understood the base offense, defense and techniques so they could get better this summer when they work on their own instead of developing bad habits.
"Our coaches will be in evaluation mode the next couple days before they hit the road recruiting. There are very few areas where we are 100% sure in terms of order and depth, but that's not a bad thing. We have a whole lot more information now than when we started and that's a good thing.
"Attitude, team togetherness – that was my big thing; I feel like this team got closer. The big thing was to play together and to get our edge back – that mental and physical toughness edge – and I like where we are right now leaving the spring. I really like our attitude.
"Overall, it was a solid spring and for the most part we accomplished the goals that we set. I feel like we improved."
