To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

A standoff is over after six hours of negotiations. Florence Police and SWAT negotiated with a man inside a home in West Florence, Monday.

Police said Terry Hankins shut himself inside the residence at the intersection of College Terrace and Nance Street around 10 a.m. after officers saw him enter his girlfriend's house.

According to police, Hankins was wanted for first degree robbery and domestic strangulation charges. His family told police that Hankins had some violent behavior over the weekend.

Police had a search warrant for the home and Hankins' girlfriend got out of the house before the standoff began. Officers also evacuated the residents in neighboring homes.

After three hours, officers fired gas canisters into the home and urged Hankins to come out with his hands up. After six hours, the standoff ended and Hankins was loaded into a waiting ambulance.

No other injuries were reported.
