North Alabama took an early 3-0 lead and held off Christian Brothers for a 5-4 win Sunday as the Lions completed a three-game sweep of the Buccaneers. With the win, UNA is now 25-18-1 overall and 15-9 in GSC play.
UNA got two runs in the first inning and one in the second for a 3-0 lead. CBU closed the gap to 3-2 in the third and each team added a run in the fourth to make it 4-3. The Buccaneers tied the game with a run in the fifth before the Lions got the final go-ahead run they needed in the sixth on a two-out RBI-single by Jake Ward,.
UNA junior Cade Medley got the complete-game win for the Lions and imporoved to 6-1 overall. It was Medley's second straight complete game and his fourth complete game. Five of Medley's six wins have come in conference play.
UNA's two runs in the first inning came as Jake Ward and Josh Doyle singled to start the inning. Josh Cyr then drove in Ward with a ground-out and Dylan Boston's sacrifice fly scored Doyle. In the second inning, Mathew Tittle singled and scored on a Thoasm Lundborg sacrifice fly. Tittle led off the fourth and later scored on an error.
The Lions out-hit the Buccaneers 12 to eight, led by Tittle with four and Cyr with three. UNA plays at Freed-Hardeman Tuesday at 5 p.m. before closing out the regular season on the road at West Georgia.
