MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The biggest Special Olympics fundraiser in the Tennessee Valley is happening this weekend.

The Decatur Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff's Office kicked off the Cops on Top event with the Torch Run Friday morning.

Athletes cheered on the officers as they made it to the Walmart on Beltline Road.

Law enforcement in several counties will be at Walmart Friday and Saturday collecting donations and selling T-shirts to help fund the Special Olympics.

"It's a life-changing program. It's all about letting these folks experience a lot of things that we take for granted. Just fellowship in one another, the competition, and we want to continue that," said Lt. Proncey Robertson with Decatur PD.

You can donate at any Walmart in Decatur, Athens, Moulton, and Cullman, and at the new Walmart in Madison.
