GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

This month marks the second anniversary of the April 2011 tornadoes.

A triathlon is coming to bring awareness to Lake Guntersville State Park, hit hard by the tornadoes.

The state park is well on its way to being the way it once was and has been open for some time now, but park officials said they still get calls asking if they're open.

Race officials hope to bring attention to that.

Fire, police, rescue, and other officials attended Wednesday's safety meeting as they prepare for the 2nd Annual Lake Guntersville Olympic Triathlon set for May 4.

While they do not expect a terrorist event, officials said they are preparing for the safety of the athletes as they conduct their 1500 meter swim, 25-mile bike, and 6-mile run.

More than 200 athletes are expected to participate, and officials hope it helps to serve as a reminder that people should enjoy all that Lake Guntersville State Park has to offer.

"We call the race 'the rise of the phoenix,' and that's a rebirth of the state park.  This state park was devastated by the storms.  This is our attempt to bring attention to the great facility here at Lake Guntersville," said race director, Parker Edmiston.

The public is invited to attend.

The race is set for 8 a.m. on May 4.
