HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Hospital's trauma and emergency room staff says they are prepared and ready in case of a mass emergency.

Huntsville Hospital's emergency room was specifically designed to handle mass traumas. There are six trauma rooms, each one is fully staffed and can accommodate three critical patients at a time. The trauma room's are heated, equipped with the latest technology and mobile.

Dr. Rony Najjar, Chief of Trauma Surgery at Huntsville Hospital, said the trauma rooms are designed to function not only as a trauma room but as an operating room, intensive care unit, even x-ray area.

He said hospital staff trains on a regular basis to prepare for tragedies like what happened in Boston.

"It's a sad unfortunate situation but unfortunately as well its reality and we have to be prepared for that. you are going to do your job, save these people. Save as many as you can with as much as you have," said Dr. Najjar.

Huntsville Hospital employees know how emotional it can be to work a mass casualty scene like the one in Boston.

Shortly after the 2006 Lee High bus crash, the hospital was gifted with pizza from an out-of-state hospital.

Huntsville Hospital employees plan to pay the kindness forward with the gift of pizza to Boston's emergency rooms on Friday.
