FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

After nearly two months in the hospital, a father from the Shoal's received a very warm welcome home Monday afternoon.  Shane Green was injured back in February rescuing his kids after his house caught on fire.

The father of two got a hero's welcome complete with signs, balloons and plenty of hugs. Green had been in UAB's burn unit since the fire.

"I give God all the glory though," he said.  "If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have made it."

It was in the early morning hours of February 26th when the Green's home on Enterprise Street caught fire with Green and his two kids inside. He said he only had one thought while his home burned.  "I just to save my kids that's," he said.  "That's all I knew that my house was on fire and I had to get them out of there."

Green used his hand to bust out a window to get his kids to safety. "I lost my hand, all my fingers busting that window out but it was worth it for my kids," Green said.  "I was going to die in there as long as I got my kids out."

Devin, 7 and Trinity, 3 only received minor injuries from that early morning fire.  Now that Green is back in town, he still has to go to rehab for his hand.  He says he'll continue to heal with his family by his side.

The Mayor has declared May 26, Shane Green day.  From noon until 6 p.m. at McFarland Park, those in attendance will be able to enjoy food and fun.
