HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

An insurance company kicked off its plan to get drivers to pledge not to text and drive.

The Lankford/Battle Allstate Agency held a mass signing of the "X the TXT" pledge at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Saturday night.

People were able to get behind the wheel of a driving simulator to see and experience the hazards of texting while driving without the actual consequences.

The company's goal was to make drivers aware of the dangers of texting while driving.

Recent reports show Alabama ranked number two in the nation for distracted driving deaths.

More than 100 signatures were collected. The goal is to collect 10,000 by the end of the year.
