HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Leading by example, and leaving a legacy for the future is the idea behind a special tree planting ceremony at Alabama A&M Wednesday morning.

Toyota donated several trees in honor of Arbor Day, then Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sisters put them in the ground.

One woman said they hope to inspire younger students to make a difference.

"Not only inspiring, but making sure there is a space for a future generation to grow, and letting them know they have to continue our legacy of conserving and maintaining our environment so we have a place that we call home," said Stephanie Gresham with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sustainability Committee.

The 30 new trees were planted at Legacy Lake across from the Morrison building.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
