MSFC director briefs employees on 2014 NASA budget

NASA's budget for 2014 is $17.7-billion. NASA's budget for 2014 is $17.7-billion.
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Marshall Space Flight Center director Patrick Scheuermann briefed employees on budget issues that may impact NASA.

Scheuermann said as far as he knows, no Marshall projects are in jeopardy.

Considering the uncertainty of fiscal times, he feels very confident about the money they did get.

NASA's budget for 2014 is $17.7-billion. That figure is not as much as much as it was for the 2012 fiscal budget, which was $18.7-billion.

Despite that shortage, during the briefing, Scheuermann said NASA will continue on their current course to be the world's leader in space exploration.

There are still some unknowns out there as far as the impact sequestration could have on the budget for this year. That is something that can only be answered with time.

But Scheuermann said as far as the 2014 budget is concerned, it shores up what their mission is for the future.

"I think in these times that we are in with budget uncertainty and the fiscal times that we are in, when we get a budget like what we just got and basically a reiteration of what Marshall's purpose is for the agency, I think it's outstanding news," he said.
