BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality said it is gearing up for phase two of its series of dye studies on Bayou Lafourche.

Officials said they will focus on the bayou from Napoleonville to Thibodaux for this round of testing. The study is scheduled to begin next week and end the following week.

DEQ said bright red, non-toxic dye will be injected into the water just as it was done during the previous study on the bayou around Donaldsonville.

Officials said people should not be alarmed by the red color of the water. The bayou should return to its normal color by the end of the testing day.

The purpose of the survey is to gather flow pattern information. DEQ said the data will help them form better strategies and procedures in maintaining water quality during natural disasters, like flooding from hurricanes.
