MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) - Alabama's Governor Robert Bentley announced on Tuesday his intentions to seek re-election for a second term.
Gov. Bentley, who entered office with the state's unemployment rate at 9.3 percent, has seen that number fluctuate over the past two years, with the most recent data released placing Alabama's unemployment rate at 7.3 percent.
In a press release, Gov. Bentley said he remains "humbled and honored to serve the people" of Alabama, adding that the state has enjoyed a "great deal of success."
If re-elected, Gov. Bentley would begin his second four-year term as Alabama's governor beginning in 2015.
The Republican primary is scheduled to be held on June 4, 2014.
