HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Huntsville area has the second largest concentration of cyber espionage in the country.

There is very delicate information directly related to national defense, and hackers are working right now to get that data.

The North Alabama Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) will co-host the 5th Annual Cyber Security Summit at the Von Braun Center on June 6. The other co-host, Cyber Huntsville, is an initiative started by Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.

The goals of the summit will be to educate about the vulnerabilities of computer networks and ways to combat cyber crime.

ISSA members said with so much military-based industry and with Redstone Arsenal here, cyber spies are trying to get information about our national defense systems.

"They're targeting and focusing on defense contractors to get government data or data that they're either developing or data that's going into systems that they're developing. So it's very important that they focus on cyber security since that is a threat that's out there right now," said ISSA Treasurer Kym Watkin-Statham.

They said keeping up and trying to get ahead of cyber thieves is a never-ending process.

"It's a constant cat and mouse game. And, really, that's what we're trying to do is increase security awareness, make sure people are aware of tools and techniques that are available to them, and help protect data on our networks," said ISSA President Ben McGee.

Organizers want more participants and say they need more sponsors for the Cyber Security Summit.
