HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The April 15 tax deadline is approaching and tax preparation agencies are bracing for a big rush of last minute filers.

"It's crazy around here, and with most tax offices it's really nuts the last week, even up to the last two to three days, people are wanting their information done and filed," said Liberty Tax Owner, David Freeman.

He said even if you owe the government, it's better to weigh your options now.

"My suggestion is go ahead and get it done. At least that will save you in the future. If any tax money is owed, it will save you from additional penalties," he said.

Avoiding penalties is what led Perrion Roberts into the office to get her taxes filed Friday afternoon.

"The time snuck up on me and I realized it was 10 days away so I had to get it done," she said. "I didn't want to get penalized, so that is why I came."

In the event that you can't make the deadline, Freeman has this advice.

"You need to file an extension," he advises. "It's an automatic six months extension through August."

Liberty Tax will stay open until midnight on April 15.
