COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Ronald Weems is charged with murder and abuse of a corpse.

Investigators found Amanda Taylor's remains in an area off Gnat Pond Road in the fall of 2011.

She was last seen on October 17.

Court documents contain what prosecutors believe to be a motive in the case.

They said it stems from a conspiracy involving both Taylor and Weems.

According to the document, both Weems and Taylor were going to steal a check from Laurel Pruett and open a bank account.

Prosecutors wrote in their filing that they expect there will be testimony that Weems' reason for killing Taylor is because she was going to involve him in the theft.

All of this material will be offered during trial as proof of motive.

Investigators have charged Weems with murder and abuse of a corpse.

WAFF 48's Legal Analyst Mark McDaniel discussed if this type of evidence could impact the way the jury views the victim and if that could impact the outcome of the trial.

"In any trial, there's always a double edged sword. Trial lawyers have to look and say 'This is good for us. This is bad for us.' So you have to weigh the benefits versus the negative aspects of any evidence you put forth in a trial," he said.

Jury selection will begin Monday morning in Colbert County.
