MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

School leaders in Madison approved the rezoning plan for elementary schools.

School officials say this is necessary because of overcrowding at Mill Creek and Columbia schools.

Superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler said the rezoning will only impact 13 percent of their elementary students.

"This rezoning is an attempt to use all the available classroom space to get the maximum use of the tax dollars in the building that we have," Fowler said.

He said rezoning is hard, but it's just part of being a growing school district.
