Danville man arrested for prescribing own drugs

Posted: Updated:

A Danville man was arrested Wednesday on several felony drug charges, according to Morgan Co. Sheriff Ana Franklin.

Franklin said the drug task force obtained information this week that Justin Lee Wright, 35, impersonated doctors and prescribed hydrocodone and other controlled substances for himself.

Wright was arrested and charged with two counts of attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, unlawful possession of a controlled substance (hydrocodone), and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Wright is held in lieu of $15,300 bail.

Franklin said Wright placed a call Wednesday to a Walgreens pharmacy for hydrocodone in his mother's name and picked up the prescription before going to meet with his probation officer at Morgan County Community Corrections.

Franklin said agents learned that Wright has been presenting himself as a captain with the U.S. Army Airborne Rangers, wore military uniforms while getting the prescriptions, and had been receiving care packages with cookies, snacks and other items from the wounded warrior project.

The sheriff said Wright's family members told agents he never served in the military.

More felony charges are expected against Wright.
