HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Rape investigations involving three local campuses have many still asking questions.

Student athletes at UAHuntsville, UNA and Brooks High School all face charges in separate incidents.

But, you cannot paint every athlete with the same brush.

The editor of campus safety magazine, a resource for school and university leaders to find ways to enhance safety on their campuses, said these reports could be highlighting deeper campus-wide behavior.

But having three reports of student athletes in the Valley charged with rape in recent weeks can actually be looked at as a positive that victims came forward and that the schools are reporting it, as well.

This kind of attention on a university or school campus, especially when it's an athlete, can do harm, because they represent the school every time they put on a jersey.

"The fact that these colleges and this high school [are] taking these accusations seriously and they are actually being reported on may be encouraging more victims of sexual assaults to come forward," Robin Gray, the editor, said.

Gray also mentioned this has two sides, and we can't forget about athletes who are held even more accountable to represent the school in a positive light.
