MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

For the first time, an armed deputy was assigned to Priceville High School.

The town of Priceville presented a check and a patrol car to Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin on Tuesday.

The money will pay for half of the deputy's salary. The school resource officer will also keep an eye on Priceville Middle and Elementary schools.

"We see a trust factor a lot of times with kids with police officers. And if you have one that's going to be there all of the time, they build a bond and a trust that's hard to build if you don't have that resource officer there every day," said Mayor Melvin Duran.

Priceville has pledged to continue paying half of the deputy's salary to keep them at Priceville High over the coming years.
