SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -
Jackson County deputies say an alleged burglar in Higdon ran into two obstacles he didn't count on: a homeowner with a gun.... and a window shade.

Investigators say they responded to a disturbance call Monday at a home on County Road 320. When they arrived, they found 49 year old Arnold Avans on the floor of the home, tangled up in a window shade, being held at gunpoint by the home owner.

The residents told deputies they heard a window breaking, grabbed a firearm and went to check things out. That's when they found Avans having some trouble with their decorations.

Avans was arrested and charged with burglary and public intoxication. He had to be treated for some minor cuts from the window. He's being held in the Jackson County Jail, awaiting bond.
