Nearly $14,000 spent for troopers in casino raid

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say it cost nearly $14,000 for state troopers to help serve search warrants and assist with the raid on the VictoryLand casino in Shorter.

WSFA-TV, which requested the information from the Alabama Department of Public Safety, reported the figure in a story this week.

The agency says the troopers' assignment was at the request of Attorney General Luther Strange's office. It was a total of 40 hours to ensure a sufficient number of troopers remained on regular patrol. During that 40 hour detail, the AG's office seized more than 1,600 gaming devices and more than $220,000 in cash during the Feb. 19 raid.

Cloud cover has been persistent through the morning, but those clouds should start breaking up this afternoon. While we have been slow to warm under cloudy skies, highs should still push into the mid-70s with more sunshine late. ?
