HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A UAH hockey player was arrested on a rape charge
Schools officials confirmed officers arrested Lasse Uusivirta Monday afternoon. His bond was set at $10,000.
UAH confirmed they did an investigation back in January.
According to an incident report, an 18-year-old female student came forward on January 13 with a sexual assault allegation.
She told police she was raped around 4 a.m. by a student while in his room. The report shows she contacted police an hour and a half later. She declined to press charges at the time but later changed her mind.
The report lists the rape happening around the 700 block of John Wright Drive on UAH's campus. That is the south east campus housing.
It does not name Lasse Uusivirta, however, authorities arrested him Monday and charged him with the rape.
WAFF 48 News Legal Analyst Mark McDaniel said one thing that stands out in the report is that the officer reported at least one of the parties was under the influence of a substance.
"It indicates that alcohol, drugs, or something was involved here. They don't ever say what. The prosecutor will know and that is up to the defense attorney to find out at a later date," he said.
McDaniel said a lot of information also won't come out until a preliminary hearing, which could take weeks.
