ALDOT study stresses importance of seat belt usage

Posted: Updated:
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A new study is stressing the importance of buckling up.

The Alabama Department of Transportation said 424 people died in traffic accidents in the state last year; 251 were not wearing seat belts. That is almost 60 percent.

Studies show that the number of deaths from traffic accidents is down 50 percent over the last 20 years, as Alabamians become more accepting of seat belts.

State law requires drivers, front seat passengers, and children to wear seat belts.
