HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police arrested a man after they say he cut down American flags from several businesses across the city.

Police said 44-year-old Minh Pham was charged with criminal mischief, desecration of the flag, and resisting arrest.

Pham allegedly cut down at least five flags around Huntsville, including near the Academy For Academics & Arts campus on Poplar Avenue. The flag in front of Burger King at University Drive and Memorial Parkway was also removed.

Police said Pham also destroyed flags at Huntsville Memory Gardens.

Two hotels, Holiday Inn on University Drive and Holiday Inn Express on University Drive, had their flags cut down, too.

Not much is known about the man because he had no previous criminal record in Madison County.

Pham is from Vietnam. According to investigators, Pham said he was protesting the war, though he did not specify which one. They said he has a history of destroying property while conducting his protests.

Pham is in the Madison County Metro Jail. He is expected in municipal court Wednesday.
