GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

TVA biologists spent the past several days on Lake Guntersville. They are trying to determine the health of the fish population.

They caught many fish on Thursday, and one came in at over seven pounds, but the biologists are looking for more than just a big catch.

This week, TVA biologists have fought the unseasonable cold weather getting stats on Lake Guntersville from areas including Honeycomb and Short Creeks along with the area near Preston Island.

They are checking sport fish such as bass for size and weight, along with any diseases they find or injuries, such as those from anglers.

TVA also invites the public to come and watch as well as anglers out on the lake to give them insight as to what they do.

TVA has found fish of all sizes.

"It's great to come out here and see just see five, six, seven, eight, nine pound bass one right after the other; but in all reality, a good healthy fisheries population is going to have all size classifications of fish represented well," said TVA biologist John Justice.

Justice said now that the weather is getting warmer, we should have some really good fishing this weekend.

The crew heads next week to Lake Wheeler.
