Men charged with dog fighting to make vet bill payments

JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Two of the three men facing charges connected to a dog fighting ring in Hollywood were in the Jackson County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon.

The county said that Chris Allen and James Allen should have to pay for the care of 10 dogs seized earlier this month.

Both sides argued, but in the end, they reached a settlement for a fraction of what prosecutors were initially asking.

After more than an hour of negotiating, the Allens and prosecutors came to an agreement.

At issue are 10 pit bulls currently housed at the Scottsboro Animal Shelter that have been housed since they were seized from a property in Hollywood earlier this month.

Prosecutors wanted the men to pay $1500 initially and then $1000 each month until their court case is heard.

In the end, concerns over the men's ability to pay snagged the talks.

In the end, they agreed to pay a vet bill of about $400 and just $150 per month until the case is heard.

The judge said she would have final say on restitution if the men are convicted.

Meanwhile, both prosecutors and the defense declined comment.
