Trial date set for accused Fred's shooter

FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

A DeKalb County judge set a May 20 trial date for a the man accused of shooting two employees at the Fred's in Rainsville.

Kelly Jack Mayo faces attempted murder charges.

Mayo is accused of shooting Josh Nance and Matthew Whitt in August 2012.

Mayo was arrested in Cedartown, Georgia. Police say he was trying to take a Fred's employee hostage.

The DeKalb County Sheriff says Georgia authorities agreed to allow Mayo to return to Alabama provided Mayo waive extradition to Georgia after trial.
