MOULTON, AL (WAFF) -

An old home turned apartment building was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon.

The fire started around noon at the building on Sommerville Avenue.

Moulton and Courtland fire departments responded to the call. The complex was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Four people lived in the apartments. The Red Cross is assisting them.

The building is a total loss.

There is no official cause, though there is some speculation. Fire officials believe it started in an apartment on the bottom floor.

The man who lives there said he had two space heaters on and left.

"It makes me feel bad that it started from mine, but thank goodness no one was there. I just thank the Lord nobody got hurt. That's all I could tell you," said Billy Gipson, who lives in the home.

Investigators are working to determine the cause.
