HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Huntsville doctor accused of playing loose with his meds had his controlled substances certificate suspended and his clinic shut down.

The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners issued the suspension to Dr. Shelinder Aggarwal.

According to the board's report, the doctor was found to be doing several illegal things.

The report found Aggarwal excessively dispensing controlled substances to his patients, dispensing controlled substances in amounts not related to proper medical management of his patients' illnesses or conditions, and dispensing controlled substances without legitimate medical purposes.

The report also cited probable cause to believe there was imminent danger to the public or safety if Aggarwal's Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate was not immediately suspended.

On Monday, dozens of patients waited inside Aggarwal's Turner Street office in Huntsville.

His staff said Aggarwal was not in the office.

Aggarwal has a hearing in front of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners.

He also has the right to hire an attorney to represent him and argue his case to reinstate the certificate. That hearing is set for May 15.
