HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A man help save a homeowner's dogs during a house fire in Huntsville Sunday night.

The home is on a Memorial Parkway access road between York and Harris Roads. When firefighters got to the scene, they saw smoke and flames coming from the house.

A man who was driving nearby, Matt Gonzales, said he saw the fire and turned around to see what was going on.

Gonzales said when he arrived, he started banging on the windows to alert the homeowner. He said the homeowner got out safely, but two of her dogs were still in the backyard.

"There was a dog, a little Chihuahua tied up to the pole there. And I managed to get the dog out of the pole there because it was panicked. And got that dog, took it out front and found the homeowner and got it to the owner," Gonzales said.

There's no word if anyone was injured in the fire. Investigators are looking for the cause.
