(CNN) - Boeing says it will lay off some 800 commercial jet workers at its Seattle-area factories this year.

The layoffs will come at factories that modify already-built 787 Dreamliners and 747 jumbo jets for customers.

Boeing says the layoffs are not related to the recent grounding of the 787 Dreamliner.

Instead, they are part of the company's plan to shed nearly 2,300 jobs throughout the Puget Sound region.

The jet maker expects the rest of the job losses will come through transfers and normal attrition.
