MADISON, AL (WAFF) -
Hundreds of parents met with Madison City School Board members to voice their concerns on the new proposed zones for elementary schools.
School leaders said rezoning is necessary because of overcrowding at Mill Creek and Columbia Schools.
Right now student capacity at Columbia is 863 but only expected to hold 840, while Mill Creek is more than 100 students over capacity.
Parents said this causes a problem for them because they may have to drive farther to get to their child's new school location.
"You feel impacted when you seen new developments coming in those new houses and rise that means your children have to be moved because of it," said Teresa Harris, a parent who is against rezoning.
Madison City School Superintendent, Dr. Dee fowler, said this plan does save money and could possibly prevent them from building a whole new school in the future.
